PAULO ARRAIANO
The Artist
Paulo Arraiano (b. 1977, Portugal) is an established artist and co-founder of re_act contemporary, an art laboratory and residence program based in the Azores Islands and no.stereo, an independent artist-run platform.
His practice relates to an idea of visual seismography, assessing surges concerning new natural, social and cultural paradigms. This artistic production interweaves with his research which, involving matter and anti-matter, engages the body, the landscape, and technology, addressing questions concerning climate changes, biosphere, extinction, transhumanism, and the Anthropocene.

In a contemporary context that some may call a 4th revolution referring to a new digital paradigm and transition to a moment in time with the presence of superintelligence, IA; biotech; nanotech and other elements that will transform society and reality as we know it in the present moment, we are spectators of a precise moment where science fiction is now becoming science facts.

Swiping reality, scrolling trough daily life we are experiencing an age of a technologic and biologic exponential change and a new sensorial revolution. Despite a Utopian/Dystopian perspective, we are now in the path for the arrival of internet of things, IA awakening which will impact all sectors of life and economics.
We may arrive at a place that we shall decide what is a machine and whats a human, which has already started. Based on Moore's Law (where the observation that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles about every two years), supercomputers that we call now smartphones, are in major cities used by most individuals as external Prosthesis that guide us and control our daily existence leading us into a techno-dematerialisation lifestyle and that in the future could integrate or not our physical body.
This body, landscape and any playground for atoms and molecules will transform into a new physical and even spiritual paradigma, with the possibility of an existence of new hybrid species or biological based machines with the possibility of recording and sending memories or sensations using every day cognitive augmented intelligence.
These digital Prosthesis are now in a trasition point and with AI (artificial intelligence - John McCarthy) and AI (Augmented intelligence - Douglas Engelbart) and technology like connectome (mapping/digitalising the Human Brain building a network map for our thoughts images and ideas with the possibility of holograms; clones creating a Library of Souls towards the possibility of Digital Immortality.
These extensions of our body, mind and soul... will transform the way we contact with reality and, not only in an anthropocentric vision of touch but regarding all fauna and flora, they way animals connect, we connect to animals or plants. this new sensorial divinities will transform the current paradigm.

Paulo Arraiano is currently being represented by the Uma Lulik (Lisbon) and Dimora Artica (Milan) galleries having done several art residencies at Hangar (Lisbon); Walk&Talk (Azores); Transforma (Torres Vedras), and LAC (Lagos) to name a few.
