Olia Svetlanova was born as an online presence in August 2017, since that day it has changed countless times the appearance of its virtual body.

With an interest in nihilism, online community and young culture, Olia Svetlanova’s first approach to digital culture was through glitch community and then through CGI. She developed her own language by taking inspiration from various reading materials as well as visual ones (social media images mainly). Although a digital entity appeared to allow more freedom than as a physical entity in the beginning, Svetlana now believes that the both of them have become so intervened that they no longer can be seen as purely distinct spaces. Her Instagram is a multilayered ground of her artistic practice acting as both her space of exhibition, production, creativity and connectivity.

Both works on ‘Digital Touch’ (2020), ‘NewDream’ (2019) and ‘Unearth’ (2020) are defined by her as ‘meaningless attempts to speak of love and desire and human consciousness from the speculative perspective of a machine’.
